DIY Wool Processing
We are here for the small farmer, homesteader, hand-spinner or purebred sheep enthusiast! Getting your wool to market can be a slow tiring process. Hand processing can take a lot of time. We are here to help! Are you a hand-spinner with a small stash just waiting to be turned into the yarn of your dreams? Or a small fibre farmer? Alpacas? Llamas? Sheep? Angora Goats? We can help! Try our DIY processing where we help you process your very own wool using our Brother Mini Mill Set up! We hope to establish relationships to help you get your wool into the hands of knitters, crocheters, rug hookers, weavers and crafters!
DIY Processing Information
Book on our on-line calendar for Do it Yourself Wool Processing. Processing your own fleeces can be a very time consuming, overwhelming process! Let The Copper Sheep help you reduce that stash of unprocessed fleeces. We have a nice line of Brother Mini Mill equipment ready for you. Bring your clean fleeces and I will show you how to work the machines. Put on your favourite podcast and with in a few hours those fleeces will be beautiful rovings or batts! We charge 35.00 per hour for rental of our mini mill studio space. Mill wait times are long. Some up to two years wait! The Copper Sheep can get you in and out fast! No minimum weights. you can do one fleece or as many as 10 in a day. Fleece must be scoured and free of debris.
Instructions Before You Come
To make the most of your visit with The Copper Sheep please read instructions below.
Fleece washing! Please make sure you wash and dry your fleeces before coming. We do have scouring available but we can’t process wet fleeces on the machines. If you wish to wash your fleeces here at The Copper Sheep you will have to book a separate day to use the milling equipment from the scouring. If you want more help on how best to wash your raw wool to remove lanolin and have them clean as possible click here. We want you to be happy and proud of your processed wool!
